Following a discussion on improving the consistency of the outputs of NRI supported models we agreed to aim for a more CMOR like output. A step for UM output would be to move to one variable per file, consistent with MOM output for OM3.

Rather than multiple variables in a monthly file the post-processing could take a year of data and create single variable files.

Best implemented as an option or in a separate script?
