5 years ago not scalable - 11k+ account databases - they have to use multi-tenancy
downtime is not acceptable - online change with lock fetch
schema change for different versions of db - will not tackle it even if customer is pissed - do not want developer to test it every time there is a new feature
to release the new feature - control the blast radius
