7 months ago "Good" news! It's not just you! This bug affects any bots created or modified after September 2023, Private or Public. However, bots created before September 2023 remain fully functional so long as they aren't updated.
Why specifically September '23? Well, Chai Research Corporation radically changed how bots are created around this time, allowing users to add more information and further details. A later update – I'm guessing around December 2023? – did something to the optional Chat Direction functionality, essentially making it non-functional for new and modified bots.
Hopefully, someone will eventually look into this.

Expected behavior:able to rewrite the chat direction
Actual behavior: chat direction is completely broken, when you try to change the line of chat direction, it will always change back to the automatically generated six lines, even when you try to change the chat direction after created the bot, it still changes back to the default lines, and the old bot’s chat direction cannot change either unless you change the backstory and let it regenerate the chat direction
