Having only one address is a current limitation of the underlying framework
BitCoinJ.
This is being worked on. Can't say when it will arrive though.

So, because of an inadequacy with BitcoinJ, Bitcoin Wallet only allows for
users to have one sending and receiving address? The user who posted the
comment I linked to disagrees. Can some help settle the issue?

I'm sorry, I did not remember correctly. It was the change limited to first
address issue that made me think multiple addresses do not make sense then.
Anyway, I just implemented management of multiple Bitcoin addresses and
changing the default. Have a look at Testnet version 1.09 in Android Market,
and tell me what you think.

Looks good! I don't think that users need a warning that they cannot delete
addresses though. Just put that info in a help menu. Perhaps give users the
option to archive unused addresses to avoid clutter.
