PICNIC 2013 #27

Closed tross6 closed 10 years ago

tross6 commented 10 years ago

PICNIC is taking a new form this year. Instead of the traditional full conference, it will be a joint effort with Pakhuis de Zwijger, Amsterdam Economic Board, and the Waag Society. The scale is smaller than in previous years. Instead of a closed, contained conference, this year it's more geared toward the general public.

It will be a weeklong event called "Amsterdam Urban Innovation Week - PICNIC in the City". The theme is "Redefining Growth".

The different partners will organize their own events, with locations throughout the city. 16-21 Sept.

We are thinking of two events for Appsterdam.

  1. Open for Business "meet the makers" type event, but more interactive.
  2. Hackathon partnering with Philips for their Hue hardware platform. https://www.meethue.com/en-NL

Created a milestone for PICNIC 2013 to group and track progress of the event planning.

I'm super-keen to get involved in the Hue hackathon. iOS, Bluetooth and pretty LED lights are right up my alley...

I'm meeting with Philips next week. They want to do a hackathon in November.

After Tara and I met with Chantal and Bas from A Lab, we decided to do a speurtocht involving tenants from the building so that guests will be able to do a self-guided tour of the building. With the short time frame, this is the easiest thing to coordinate and adds a very interactive element to the Urban Innovation week. Since I'll be in Köln for most of that week, @tross6 is handling most of the coordination. A message that Tara wrote will be sent to all tenants today by Anne.

Here's the description for Maike Bisseling at PICNIC, to be published in their marketing materials. Let me know if you have any suggestions. I need to submit the first version by noon tomorrow, 3 Sept. so she can get it up. Then we can modify more if we would like.

Thanks, great additions.

A Meetup link would be good to let our people know and to get an idea of the numbers. However, I don't want people to think they have to join the Meetup to come. So should I put the link, and add a note to that affect?

So far there are about 6 other companies interested in participating. I will surely get more over the coming days.

I met with Jeroen Mol from Glow Interactive today. We'll use their Xpose AR app for the scavenger hunt questions. I think it will work nicely. Each company just needs to submit their logo, a question, a correct answer, and about 4 incorrect answers (it will be multiple choice). Then the guests will go around and scan a logo at each office, which will bring up the question. We can track each user, let them know when they've visited all the offices, etc.

Now that I know this, it should be easier to get more companies on-board.

The Meetup is here with the details:

http://www.meetup.com/Appsterdam/events/139410542/

I have four volunteers to help greet people, assist them with downloading the AR app, etc. Tom van Arman, Francisca Kapar (@Cestlebrate) and two new Appsterdamers from DeanStreet Amsterdam. This should be enough. I expect about 40 people max. Low-key. About 14 A Lab companies are participating.

We need our own speurtocht question for Appsterdam, with 4 incorrect answers and 1 correct answer. The more interesting or funny, the better.

Any ideas?

Another success! A particularly nice comment on the meetup page:

"This was an exceptionally inspiring!! I entered a building while deconstruction and construction was going on. Some parts deserted, abandoned by squatters. Territitorial texts pray painted on the wall. And then I found people proudly wearing the Appsterdam T-shirt. A nice esspresso bar. And the scavenging began with app XPose. This was a speed-date with a lot of people, start-ups, entrepreneurs, visionaries, creatives, saw cool hardware, lean software, hot design, and had too little time to explore it all. I'll be back next week!!"

Just what we were aiming for.
