publish_sound synchronisation #160

When covering bigger spaces with the same sound from multiple sources it would be helpfull to be able to synchronize them. An index for that would be great, all files with the same index would be synchron. If they have different length, they wait for the longest one to end and then start again together. Also it would be great to have the possibility to join multiple ranges into one soundscape that does not overlaps but acts more as one space. The example for that use case is the following: A very large space that has further floors on top of each other is filled with multiple sound spheres to avoid sound leaking to the floors above and below. Now they ranges of the spheres unfortunately overlap and make each other louder. If it would be possible to join them and make one are out of them that would be helpful.

Hi G, thats a difficult task to do in the viewer. The desyncronization happens because it takes time to initially load the audio and they might have different sizes and come in at different times. The audio is only loaded the first time, so I would load them in a scenario without playing them (play unchecked) and then in the next play them (play checked), then they will start at the same time because the audio is already there. It's a bit like the references. Regarding the syncronization in length is difficult I think, there are many variations possible and checking that needs to go on. I would instead make sure that all sounds have the same length as the longest. Just open the smaller files in audacity and extend them to the same duration as the longest and save them as a new mp3. That could be a solution to a complex issue.

I was hoping there would be an option that is relatively easy to add. In the sense of:

  1. Sound file playing, 2. sound file ends. 3. Wait until all other files in the same list end 4. restart sound file

Editing a number of soundfiles to the same legth would be a workaround for the moment, however it requires another program and then sound editing abilities. I think our students are learning so many already, i am trying to keep it simple as possible for them.
