We've had reports come in from more desktop app users looking for this feature. As noted above, app users don't have a browser extension option as an alternative.
On macOS the app's experimental spell check feature (a possible alternative to an in-editor feature) does not consistently work in Gutenberg (https://github.com/Automattic/wp-desktop/issues/389) and on Windows there's currently no spell check feature (https://github.com/Automattic/wp-desktop/issues/637).

Now that support for After the Deadline has been removed from Calypso and Jetpack on the Classic Editor, it's necessary to find an alternative, either by implementing a new service or by adding documentation on how to configure browser language features.
This is a follow up of #28550.
