The Minimum Information About BIobank data Sharing (MIABIS) is a biobank-specific terminology enabling the sharing of minimal biobank-related data for different purposes across a wide range of database implementations.
(E.v.E. on "Subcollections in the Directory" 17.10.24): "The sub collections were added because Petr wanted them to be able to make a distinction in for instance different materials or different policies around the sub collection. I think most of the cases where we have sub collections we would be better of by using the facts table to express the split up of the collection on the basis of diagnosis, material, sex and age. The one example that Petr gave that I think is reasonable is the collection that is split up into a long term storage and short term storage sub collection. This case would also be relevant for researchers to know, but it could also be done with just two collections next to each other. However if you have a biobank with dozens of collections then it might not be clear that you have these two related collections if they are not grouped together as a collection with two sub collections."
