For deployment to not be annoying, we could use some automated process using nix and other stuff

I vote no nix, just tailscale or something similar.

tailscale can be there whether we use nix or not, nix is just gonna be the thing that builds, caches ,and runs new releases, and it's going to be part of the CI not something you install on your machine

ye, no need to curse your machine with nix, also you can test CI with act later (if you ever have to touch it anyways)
