Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe: Currently, all changes are being made to the master branch. Setting up is also an issue for new contributors.

Describe the solution you'd like: A separate branch for development and production.

Additional context:

52 seems related. Updates to CONTRIBUTING.md and README.md may be required.

@stephenhegarty thanks, but right now people with write access (me and @Bhupesh-V) don't have much time for reviewing the changes. And this issue needs action from us.
