The combination of bare soil roughness, snow roughness, threshold leaf area index and the roughness module (using the default soil models) is numerically sensitive to the (arbitrary) minimum values applied. Changing the minimum values independently of each other is impossible without crashing the model (usually because a resistance term becomes negative).

This has prevented the use of (more sensible) higher values for the minimum bare soil and minimum snow roughness within ACCESS-CM2.

This likely needs the roughness module and associated trigger points around whether a tile is vegetated or not to be extensively reviewed and redeveloped.
