Rob Mensching's post may turn out to be one of the most important documents in the history of open source. As a result of the social engineering method that the XZ exploit authors used, EVERY open source maintainer needs to carefully consider how to respond to criticism of their performance as a project maintainer. No longer can we consider user or contributors who complain as simply immature, ignorant or insensitive; from now on, every "is this still maintained?" post on a project needs to be considered at least a potential attempt to manipulate authors into giving up the maintainer role to a bad actor.
