What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Opening the .exe
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Using the program normally by accessing the interface, instead receive
"Fatal Error: WMV does not support your version of wow, please update"

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
ver0.7.0.1 32bit, Vista 32bit

Please provide any additional information below.
I run wow off and external HDD, my log goes as follows

23:22:08: Game Data Path: C:\
23:22:08: Use Local Files: false

23:22:08: Unable to gather TOC data.
23:22:08: InitMPQArchives result: false
23:22:08: Fatal Error: WoW Model Viewer does not support your version of WoW.
Please update your World of Warcraft client!
23:22:09: Info: GUI Layout loaded from previous session.
23:22:09: WoW Model Viewer successfully loaded!
----

23:22:09: Shuting down the program...

Also get a similar error with v0.5.08 (Chuanhsing update r548) but the
program doesn't close, and is overall still usable.

According to the log file, you don't have WoW on your system.

If you DO have WoW installed, you can fix this by opening the WoW.exe file in
your
WoW directory. You don't have to log on or anything, just run the program, then
close
it. Your WoW path will be recorded by windows, which will then be read by WMV,
and
should fix this particular issue.

If you don't have WoW installed, then there's nothing you can do. Install WoW
and
patch to 3.3.x, and WMV will work.

Just tried it now, I opened the wow .exe, closed out of it and opened the WMV
.exe
but I got the same error. I'll try moving my wow folder to my C drive and
disconnect
my HDD and see if it makes a difference.

I'm having this same problem. I'm using boot camp on a Mac, and this new
version of
WoW model viewer is (frankly) pretty stupid in that it will instantly crash
when it
doesn't find WoW where it expects. Version .5.0.7 didn't do this.

WoW is on the Mac Partition of my hard drive. I don't have room to copy all of
it to
my Windows partition. I installed just the Vanilla version of WoW and patched
it to
3.3.3, and WMV still reports:

Fatal Error: WoW Model Viewer does not support your version of WoW. Please
update
your World of Warcraft client!

Well, it is. Does this WMV only work if you have have WotLK installed?

I receive no other errors when I run WMV as administrator. This is on Windows 7
btw.

Any advice? Thanks!

Frankly, what you're trying to do sounds pretty stupid. Running WMV from a
windows
partition but trying to read the data from a Mac partition... WMV was never
intended
to even considered that possibility!

As for Vanilla patched to 3.3.x and not working, I was about to load the game
onto my
laptop, so I'll look into it. But the program reads the TOC data to determine
which
patch number you have, and patching even vanilla to 3.3.x should make it work...

But to answer your question, the program was build with WotLK in mind, so it
follows
that it must be installed. Again, I'll test it out with my laptop, but frankly,
you
shouldn't be running the windows WMV on a Mac.

We have a Mac version in the works and we should be seeing a Macintosh Beta
edition
from Tob Franke soon!

I had the same problem under Windows Vista. A look at my Config file under
userSettings revealed that despite WoW having been run and the registry key
being
correctly set, the Config file still had WoW listed at c:\\ .

Deleting the Config file and restarting WMV solved the problem. Does this work
for
others having this issue?

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Closing this issue, since this is a user error: WMV needs to have the correct
location of the WOW data folder. C:\
is most likely not it.
