:+1: esp. after seeing some of the blog posts post-Strange Loop from those who attended on diversity scholarships - there's a lot of good "education" for organizers (and TAs etc) in those pieces.
Clojure Minneapolis has some good links in this space: https://github.com/clojurebridge-minneapolis/curriculum/blob/master/lightning-talks/floss-women.md. I would definitely appreciate more pointers.
I hadn't even considered all of the Strange Loop posts that people just wrote! That's a great idea.
I just started a page here and added a few posts to get it started: https://github.com/ClojureBridge/organizing/wiki/Resources-on-Diversity
I added two more that I had enjoyed (Madhu Vishy and Julia Evans).
This is great stuff. Added a link from the main wiki page. Feel free to add links from other places. Might want to get some feedback from RailsBridge folks, too. They probably have more good ideas.
Yay, Julia! Julia's the best.
Also, @bridgethillyer, any RailsBridge people in particular I should poke?
Most of the RailsBridge discussion happens on their workshops list, AFAIK: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/railsbridge-workshops
But if you met Jane and are in touch with her, maybe you could ask her.
Just proposed a post to the RailsBridge workshops list. Thanks for the suggestion!
Just added some from the latest Model View Culture, so with that, I'll close this issue!
Although, obviously, more additions are always welcome. :)
Most of the
organizing
wiki focuses on the logistics of putting together a workshop: how to find a venue, who to ask for funding, where to find students, and when to email TAs.I think there should also be a list of reading materials to serve as an "Intro to Diversity" and "Feminism 101" primer for organizers, who may not have experience facilitating welcoming spaces for people of diverse groups.
This would be a collection of links to pieces from Model View Culture, Ashe Dryden's blog, Liz Howard's blog, etc. that are specifically geared towards organizing inclusive events.
For example, I'm proposing pieces like this: http://lizthedeveloper.com/how-to-have-an-awesomely-inclusive-and-radically-transparent-hackathon
