Double vision #82

Hi, when I try to use this mod with Vive the "eyes" don't line up resulting in double vision(during game, not just menu). No one else seems to mention this problem so I must be doing something wrong. It's a fresh install of the game(bfg) with RBDoom3BFG.1.1.0.OpenVR12.2 unpacked into game directory, then launched with the mod launcher. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi. What do you mean by 'launched with the mod launcher' ? You need to doubleclick 'RBDoom3BFG.exe'. Also, your version is outdated. Current version is 12.6. Maybe try the latest version and report back.

You could also try to install it differently. Make a new folder somewhere and call it RBDoom3VR. Extract the archive to this folder. Then copy the 'base' folder from your normal Doom3BFG steam folder to RBDoom3VR folder and start the game by doubleclicking on RBDoom3BFG.exe'. Hope it helps.

Thanks for your advice masher42, unfortunately I've had no luck. When I said launched with mod launcher I meant 'RBDoom3BFG.exe', sorry about that. I tried the latest version-RBDoom3BFG.1.1.0.OpenVR12.6.866337c- and the other method of install. Something I've noticed is that with other vive games, the window that shows the game on the monitor is a single screen where as when I try 'RBDoom3BFG, the monitor window shows 2 screens, as in side by side. I thought this was odd and may point to my problem. Also, when in game, if I go to Settings>3D Options-both of my vive lenses show the right eye(red eye at the bottom) where as when I play regular Doom 3 on monitor, it shows both left and right eyes. EDIT- I just tested it and realised that whilst the vive only seems to show the right eye in both lenses, on the monitor (side by side as I mentioned) the left screen has the left eye and the right screen has the right eye. Maybe the monitor is getting the vive display and the vive is getting what is supposed to be on the monitor. Strange that it isn't happening with other vive games.. Once again, any advice is appreciated and I really appreciate your time.

Sorry, but I don't understand what is happening on your machine. I think you will have to wait for the author to comment on your issue. Or another user may be wiser than me.

I can only say that i never used the ingame menu to change settings. I think any stereo-3d settings in the menus are meant for shutterglass/anaglyph 3d. To change settings related to VR, you will have to use the console. Take a look at the 'CONSOLE.TXT' file.

Maybe it helps if you delete the follwing folder: C:\Users\YOUR-USERNAME\Saved Games\id Software\RBDOOM 3 BFG

It's the place where the game saves settings and savegames. You might have bad settings from the older version you tested before. It's just a guess, though.

Cheers mate, yeah it's strange. it's like the vive treats this game different to other games, on my machine that is. I'll try what you suggested. Could you, or anyone reading this, do me a favour and go to settings in the game and go to 3D Options, not to change anything, but just to see if the picture of the red eye, at the bottom, is in a different position when you close each eye. I think that it's supposed to be, but for some reason both of my eyes are on the right. I think for some reason I'm getting the right lens display in both eyes, instead of left and right. Funny no one else seems to have this problem. Anyway, thanks again. I'll check back later to see if anyone has tried this for me.

I can confirm that i have the red eye in both lenses too. Seems to be normal. But, like i already said, these options are not for VR. They are for Anaglyph/Shutterglass 3D. I guess messing with these settings would do more harm than help. I had to do zero configuration. It was running out of the box for me. Do you have steamvr and your drivers at the latest versions ?

edit: Correction, i just read your question again. I see two red eye symbols. One at the left and one at the right. When i close the left eye, i only see the right symbol and vice versa. So, what you see seems to be normal. Here is a screenshot from the compositor mirror:

Try starting SteamVR before running RBDoom3BFG.exe.

If I run RBDoom3BFG.exe without SteamVR, it will automatically launch SteamVR but just as you experience, both eyes end up with the same image.

Hey masher42 and Codes4fun, thanks so much for trying to help with this. I feel really stupid because after spending hours trying to fix this, masher42 reminded me to update steamvr, which in turn allowed me to update the other firmware(headset and lighthouse). To be honest, I didn't realise that steamvr needed updating until masher42 mentioned it. Now it's fixed!! So once again, thank you so much. I can't stand it when people take you guys for granted! You don't need to help us noobs yet you do, now my boy and I can enjoy this AWESOME mod. You guys ROCK and thanks again :) So Happy right now!

;-) Glad that it's finally working for you ! Hope your boy is old enough, the game is pretty intense in VR ;-) Have fun !
