Feature Request - [Add a New Distro/Flavor of Linux] #581

Open corbinlc opened 5 years ago

corbinlc commented 5 years ago

Describe the problem your feature request solves.

Our users want a variety of linux distributions, but the paid developers are trying to focus on improving the core functionality of UserLAnd. In addition, we are getting too many issues to manage.

Describe the solution you'd like

1) Contributors build the new distributions following the instructions provided in the wiki 2) Requests for and conversation about new distros stays in this issue.
Note: Please keep the conversation limited towards A) requesting new distros or B) saying a new distro is ready. Please keep your work mostly independent so our team can focus on other tasks. If you have done your research, but still have a technical question for our team, please talk to us on slack.

Outstanding requests

Gentoo Ubuntu (already exists, but requested a fresher, 19.04, and older versions, 16.04) Fedora Parrot Mint Voidlinux Raspbian Deepin Debian 10 Devuan Manjaro

I will update the requests pending as things change.

carbonatedcaffeine commented 5 years ago

I'm going to start on my userLAnd projects organisation and start building ubuntu 18.10

carbonatedcaffeine commented 5 years ago

Hey I Got This When Building Ubuntu 18.10:

ender@Ender-HP-EliteBook:~/Ubuntu-18.04$ sudo sh scripts/installArch.sh x86_64 split: assets/x86_64/rootfs.tar.gz.part00: No such file or directory cp: cannot create regular file 'assets/x86_64/libdisableselinux.so': No such file or directory cp: cannot create regular file 'assets/x86_64/busybox': No such file or directory ls: cannot access 'assets/x86_64': No such file or directory

carbonatedcaffeine commented 5 years ago

Wow this actually looks awesome. I will have a look into arm...

carbonatedcaffeine commented 5 years ago

Ok it supports arm64 and armhf.... looks good.

Feature request I would like an arm rasbain os version (32 bit i think) download from here https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/. so i can try to compile pypy3 for rasberry pi(uname -a gave me if my memory serves me right arch) I have 4 gb of ram on my tablet and a faster proccess then pi. (Uname -r gave me arch64 on my tablet). Thanks

frog-o commented 5 years ago

I updated my original post with a link to the os. Sorry for such bad wording on my post I reread things a lot but still have difficulty. It sounds good to me when I write and reread it last time. i hope it is better now.

Please note

If you're talking about the pi when you say you send me one 10% below value i assume you talking about the raspberry pi.

I already have a raspberry pi zero w already actually. I don't need the pi sorry about the confusion. It is a free operating system. Thanks for getting back to me.

Ok cool... If you're sure you're looking at 32 bit its all backward compatible but the Cortex A7 command and the quad-core processors of the family Rpi2 model 3 and B+ are 64... So you might want to check on that.

I've got all bases covered and if you want to send me the link I will check it out, put it on a 16gb micro ad class 10 and ship to you for 10% below market price.

Me too... Yeah and you just popped out of the woods at the time I was poking in the registry of my winbox server. Always makes me a nervous.

Anyhoo I've stocked the zero w and several new rpi3B+. Just doin a little pen testing with Kali's assortment of diabolical tools. Was considering unloading a few Rock64 Pine and the Xu4s, but you realize Google is behind Docker as well as Kerberos so until I see how all this life of the edge and SD WANs work out I'm thinkin to hold on to my Cluster babies. If you have any you're looking to get rid of any let me hear from you.

Any chance of getting manjaro?

carbonatedcaffeine commented 4 years ago

manjaro? No... manjaro is just arch linux. UserLAnd alread has that.

MatthewTighe commented 4 years ago

@adrianinsaval Manjaro is added to the list.

m-rey commented 4 years ago

It would be nice to also have openSUSE available.

unsponsoredgeek commented 4 years ago

I have what is probably a pretty dumb question: Is there any way to get UserLAnd to boot a live distro from an ISO image (and then install it)? The user could do ISO downloading offline instead of through the phone app. Thanks in advance for any info.

carbonatedcaffeine commented 4 years ago

UserLAnd does not run on ISO's @unsponsoredgeek. It runs off prebuilt rootfs.

unsponsoredgeek commented 4 years ago

Thanks for the quick reply. When Porteus 5.0 releases I will probably make an official request to add it.

carbonatedcaffeine commented 4 years ago

Oh yeah? That sounds pretty good. I remember my first OS pull, I added alpine Linux. It took a while though. Would you like help with that?

aiamuzz commented 4 years ago

Hi, count my vote for Linux Deepin on Userland too ... are we any closer ? thanks.

Lucky7star commented 4 years ago

Idk but 14.04 LTD expired in April but its cloud server is an important part of all this evolutionary step that's shaking the web and designed into (or around) this G5. Seems like the Debian Matrix would maintain its hold on that image.

New distros would be GREAT if the current distros worked on my machine. However, I am unable to get ANY browser working on UserLand Ubuntu. Firefox core dumps, and Thunderbird comes up totally black except for the window decorations. On Debian, firefox and thunderbird both come up, but again the window background, and foreground, and menus, are totally black. My machine is the Galaxy Tab S6 and my Android is 9.0. My UserLAnd version is 2.6.5. I've already tried installing Seamonkey and Opera on Ubuntu, and those installs failed. So I'm sending this from Chrome on Android. FYI, when I tried the Firefox app selection from the main UserLAnd menu, I got the same result as running firefox from Debian, not a big surprise since the app selection installs some subset of Debian. Anyway, PLEASE stabilize the existing UserLAnd distros before going on to other distros.

Lucky7star commented 4 years ago

My point precisely... I've got 18.04 running fairly smooth on Odroids xu4 the Rpi4 is happy but the Rpi3 b+ still having trouble but as far as browsers the txt browser Lynx always works as my go to, when everything else falls apart... Lynx is your lifeboat.

Can someone start working on Ubuntu 20.04 please? Also, can my existing 18.04 install be safely upgraded, and if so, how? (More specifically, does the official upgrade utility work for this purpose?)

If it's relevant: Android 7.1.1 armhf, non root.

Lucky7star commented 4 years ago

At the moment I'm working on the interface within WSII Windows 10 latest installment of the 18.04 kernel upgrade to full root (which of course it is not for several security reasons and least of which is getting the two OS to function properly without breaking bad ). Now at first glance it seems foolish. Why bother???

Are so I thought too until I discovered that gripe message when you're in Windows working with a Linux format in Etcher and it keeps trying to format your card. You just drop into Ubuntu and pull up whatever you need. Gpart, Etcher, whatever... Works great! So far. Next maybe try Port forwarding and/or full Virtualization with Kvm connection to my PE Dell r710 so I might still finish my GitHub project. Because they're simply things that Windows 10 can do that meets compliance that are very difficult in the Ubuntu 18.04 running strictly a P.E. Dell r7.10... Its a fairly complex process that I'm confident can be solved before moving forward to the 20.xxx build

As far as CentOS 8 is concerned... That's a bridge too far for the Rpi3 or

  1. Too much code and Journalism's on the drives, its going to wear that little Micro SD out quick. It puts a load on the big Dell PowerEdge with its fat Xeons.

However, the Clover cluster looks very promising if work on the ssd or usb code is successfully completed for the Rpi4.

My two cents

I'm actually trying to export the ubuntu 20.04.3 rootfs but with dropbear configured and installed. But some error occurred. When I look back at the proot log, there was an error saying tar: /proc/fakethings: No such file or directory and I have no clue what it means
