JHB reported: "There is a recommendation from TISA to WG10/4 to withdraw both of the TPEG (gen 1) series (18234 and 24530, I think). WG 10/4 accept that recommendation but Loic and I observed that this may cause an issue for DATEX II/WG8. Whether or not TPEG-Loc (gen 1) is practically used in DATEX II implementation, 18234-6 and 24530-2 are normative references in 16157-2:2019 – see below. To that extent, they cannot be withdrawn unilaterally without 16157-2 being amended, to remove the normative references."

BdV responded: "We took inventory and none of the MS considered it to be an issue that the TPEG-loc standard itself is withdrawn. If this affects the reference in our standard, we have to update the reference."

This should presumably be done in the next revision of 16157-2. We should check the model for similar references in definitions.

Until now both CEN ISO/TS 18234-6 and CEN ISO/TS 24530-2 are still in force even if TISA advocates to only use TPEG generation 2 standards and technical specifications. Currently the systematic review of the TPEG generation 1 specifications (all parts) is underway. If ISO decides to withdraw them, there is no reason to remove this location referencing system used by some countries. The only action could possibly be to remove these references in Clause 2 if it does not hinder the definitions and adapt the text.

The issue was concluded during the 2024-10-15 meeting. It is to note that:

Moreover in DATEX II, some countries use this LRS. Therefore, it is kept in version 4. The point could be re-assessed for version 5.
