Expected behavior

Using instructions described at: https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Mario_Kart_DS-Track_Hack_Information_Guide

it is possible to change which courses are made available for selection online in MKDS. These changes work just fine on flashcarts.

The game should launch correctly.

Actual behavior

The game crashes on launch with a red screen and debug error. The game only launches if the ROM is untouched.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Using instructions described at the provided URL, attempt to modify online course selection in the MKDS ROM.
  2. Launch the game.
  3. Notice that the game crashes on launch.

Try running the game in DSi mode, and see if that fixes the issue.

Same behavior in DSi mode.

Does this still occur on later versions?

With TWiLight Menu++ 26.9.0 and nds-bootstrap 1.4.2 it is the same as before: immediate red screen with Error: Data Abort!

It's hard to say how much time is spent between loading nds-bootstrap and handing over execution to the title but it could be little to no time at all as it is pretty immediate.
