Pushing this up my priority list for investigation/fix because the soldering iron had been left on last night.
I've recovered the tip, so it can solder again now.
A reminder to (a) turn it off when you're done with it, and (b) check that the soldering irons are off when locking up (it's reasonably easy to spot, as they've each got a light on them when they're on)
Deian and I had a look at this a few weeks ago and it seems not to be sticking any more. It's been reinstated since then and I haven't noticed/heard of anyone having problems soldering (me included), so I'm going to close this for now and we can reopen it if it recurs.
@helicalbytes noticed yesterday that the microswitch on the cradle for the Thermaltronics soldering iron doesn't always release properly when you remove the iron from the cradle.
As a result it sometimes doesn't turn on and heat up. You can tell if it has released properly as the green LED on the base unit will light up.
