I just noticed that I received the "Thargoid Destroyed" badge, while never having destroyed a Thargoid.
But I did buy a Thargoid Heart from a fleet carrier to unlock the special bobblehead. I'm guessing that's what unlocked it.
The description for earning the badge reads: Kill a Thargoid and scoop a Wreckage Components, Propulsion Elements, Biomechanical Conduits, Weapon Parts, or Thargoid Heart.
The first 4 items are materials, that cannot be traded. The Thargoid Heart is a commodity and can be transferred, and with fleetcarriers is now being bought and sold.
It might be better to remove the Thargoid Heart from the badge unlock criteria? Or do the materials not always drop?
Btw, is there a way for me to hand my badge back in? Because, 1) I haven't actually earned it, and 2) for roleplay reasons I'd prefer to not have this badge.
