High memory and CPU use on KnowYourMeme #109

Open Corrodias opened 7 years ago

Corrodias commented 7 years ago

When I have this extension enabled and visit a page on KnowYourMeme, such as http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/galo-sengen , the memory and CPU usage skyrocket, and the tab takes several seconds to close after I tell it to.

disabled: page loads in a few seconds. memory is about 320 MB, later dropping to 220 MB. CPU use is brief and falls to 0. enabled: page is unresponsive to input. memory continually grows, shooting past 600 MB before I lose patience. CPU use is constant, one full core.

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about debugging Chrome extensions to give you much helpful information, here.

Wow, I've experienced this behavior before and had not realized it was related to this extension. Thanks for reporting.

@Corrodias Thank you so much for finding this. I am honestly amazed that google led me to this discussion, as I dont think I ever suspected that this addon was responsible for breaking the NYM web page. I thought my laptop was faulty.

@Eloston Its almost June and theres no update. Whats the deal? Unfortunately I will have to uninstall your addon if it is breaking websites and stalling chrome. Let me know when its fixed, thanks

Sorry for the bump after 5 yrs ~~but this issue actually even exists on Firefox's built in autoplay denial implementation With the following in my config:~~

It's not this ``` media.autoplay.default 5 media.autoplay.block-event.enabled true media.autoplay.allow-extension-background-pages false dom.media.autoplay.autoplay-policy-api true ````

Maybe I should open an issue on bugzilla 🤔 EDIT: Found the cause: https://github.com/machsix/Super-preloader/issues/899
