Accommodate Cylindrical coordinate system in NESO #4

Open jwscook opened 4 months ago

jwscook commented 4 months ago

Working out of the https://github.com/ExCALIBUR-NEPTUNE/nektar-diffusion-ambipolar repo, we want to run anisotropic diffusion in cylindrical coordinates to get MAST-U right.

jwscook commented 4 months ago

There is an MR into the Nektar gitlab with the cylindrical coordinates system code in - we're waiting on that to be merged.

We can work out of that branch to run the MAST-U version of the ambipolar diffusion app and ask Romain for a reference solution from EDGE2D

@futtersack could you add some Edge2D profiles comparing Cartesian vs Cylindrical coordinates please :)

futtersack commented 4 months ago

Will need a little time for this one.

Got the beginning of a 3D grid else, which should give same radial profile than 2D with Cylindricals ?

jwscook commented 4 months ago

What we need from Edge2D is the Cylindrical equivalent of the anisotropic diffusion example we have in MAST-U geometry already.

This is the WIP MR https://gitlab.nektar.info/nektar/nektar/-/merge_requests/1797 on the netkar gitlab

Basically done - need to check it works with the non-aligned boundary condition..

Approx 2 weeks until we can compare 2D cylindrical with 3D cartesian, so plenty of time to get this done by 17-18 October for the ExCALIBUR meeting in Leicester.

@JamesEdgeley to chase @mdave to get the cylindrical MR merged in Nektar
