Certain things that happen while playing are more important than others. This is a list of things I wouldn't mind getting a notification about:

profitable item is dropped by a mob or enemy
wanted item is dropped by anyone
limited item is dropped
you level up
an important mob dies
someone dies
an enemy peeks in from an adjacent room

If we maintained a detailed event system a user could build this list themselves. Some sane defaults could also be provided.
