[MESH EDITOR] Dedicated active material dockable window #7482

What can't you do?

Replicate the dockable window for the active material like hammer, instead of it appearing only in the inspector. This is very useful for many things like dragging the material in, fast texturing, etc. Having the box for the active material go away when switching to something like the edge tool isn't a great workflow, and with how modular scene is this can be an optional addition for the user (like hammer).

How would you like it to work?

The active material could remain in the inspector, but there would have an option in 'View' to have a dedicated window for it that looks like below.

This will also be good to visualize the material you are about to use instead of it being in a tiny little box like it currently is in the inspector

What have you tried?

Using what is currently available in the inspector

I would also say the dockable window should not change the active material when selecting faces with different materials like the current inspector one does.
