Riot is a end-to-end crypto messager with the possibility to host your own communication server. I would like to use the icon as a reference to our riot channel on our website.

Would love a Riot icon - same use case.

Maybe is better to add a Matrix icon, see #12808, as Riot is a client, not an specification.

earfolds commented 6 years ago

On the other hand, you can link directly to a matrix room on the riot.im domain, and it will open in the Riot web app, so at least in that use case, a Riot icon would be more relevant than a Matrix one.

jpt commented 6 years ago

Agree with @earfolds, +1 for Riot, not Matrix. A Riot icon would be used for direct links to Riot, sort of like a Telegram link. I don't think there would ever be a justification for a Matrix icon.

heitorPB commented 6 years ago

You have a very good point, @earfolds!

@jpt, a Matrix icon would be useful for the same use as a Telegram or Whatsapp icon: writing a username/room/community, without forcing a specific client. I would use a Matrix icon in a contact page, together with an email icon, for example.

The matrix icon on a website could link to https://matrix.to/ , which is client-agnostic.

Fork Awesome has a Matrix icon :) https://forkawesome.github.io/Fork-Awesome/icon/matrix-org/

samuel-p commented 4 years ago

I think this is obsolete now, as Riot has changed to Element: https://element.io/blog/welcome-to-element/

colans commented 4 years ago

Seems like everyone agrees that this can be closed anyway, as a Matrix icon makes more sense. So this is a duplicate of https://github.com/FortAwesome/Font-Awesome/issues/12808. Please close this one; I can't see a "Close" button.
