Merle District alongside town or village so that Gazetteer can be used for FreeBMD research. #1581

Merle says: In using the Gazetteer it would be most useful, in my opinion, if the District was included alongside the name of the town or village for use when then searching FreeBMD - which uses District names. I imagine this will be a monster of a job but would be a worthwhile addition.

I have replied to Merle saying that this is logged but will need to be considered when the three FreeUKGen searches are integrated.

My reply to Merle includes: At sometime in the future the plan is that the three FreeUKGen projects will be able to be searched using ‘one search finds all’. This is not a FreeCEN project but is planned as a FreeUKGen project. It is therefore not within my knowledge to reply. However, I can say that the Gazetteer was developed as a way of assisting with future integration. The original Gazetteer was developed by FreeREG and enhanced by FreeCEN. There will need to be a method developed to link FreeBMD to it so that all are searching using the same data. In the first instance this will be the responsibility of FreeBMD developers. Linking can be automated just as it was when FreeCEN was set up. So, the short answer is your suggestion is logged and will be considered further down the line. At the moment it will not get to the top of the FreeCEN jobs for some time. I have logged it so that it can be considered when the three searches become integrated.
