Hi Jaime, welcome to Ghini! we have a small Telegram group for quicker help, there's 8 users as of today in the group, you're welcome to join, just send me an email, I'll share the private join link (trying to fight against spam).
now to the point …
you add pictures to the database using the software itself, and the process is described in the online documentation. you can also do that manually, but it's not easy, or better said it's easy to make mistakes along the process. if before adopting Ghini your collection is a collection of pictures, you can also import it into ghini.
if you find that any spot in the documentation does not describe the software, please help me reformulate better, clearer to you and to our fellow users.
hope this helps, you may close the issue if you think so, or ask further. thank you for using our GPL Ghini.
Thanks for the reply!
I've tried using the online documentation, it's been very useful for understanding other processes but I think I'm still misunderstanding something for adding photos.
Here is an Imgur gallery showing my steps: https://imgur.com/gallery/MquXn8a
Some things I might be doing wrong:
I'm also not sure if a thumbnail image of the photo should appear in Ghini, or if it just appears as a link to the actual file.
Thanks for the help!
very curious … the 4th picture in the gallery shows something that should not happen. I must have a look at it, won't be possible before next week though. I see you are on Windows, and that you've got a space in the connection directory. both should not be a problem, but I need to have a look.
in the meanwhile, do you think you could try the picture-import-tool? and import the pictures in a new empty database?
Hi! I'm a complete novice about software development but have been looking at Ghini and enjoying it's functional record keeping for my plant collection.
I have been trying to add photos to my plant records however can't find the picture base folder. The default location picture root shows it as the ghini.desktop program file folder but I can't find a specific "pictures" folder or "thumbnails" folder as suggested in the ghini instructions doc. If I change the default location then pictures only show up as locations in Ghini - should they appear as images? Possibly due to the lack of thumbnail folder?
I am currently using Ghini 1.0.90
Any help would be appreciated as adding photos to my records is very important to me and is one of the reasons I chose Ghini!
Thanks :)
