Present the user with a filter to provide a customized and screened view to deliver a better user experience. Filters can have different variants depending upon the page type and the use case. It can vary from being a text box to a dropdown, a checkbox and even radio buttons. Whenever the user makes a change to any of the input fields, the results are automatically updated.

What evidence do you have that it’s needed by multiple services across government?
In the DIO, we often deal with dashboards and tables which has a lot of data and there needs to be an option to filter based on what the user wants to view.
What evidence do you have that it meets the needs of the users of those services?
Since we work on large sets of data, there is an imminent requirement for us to have a pattern that helps the user to filter the data based on their requirements.
Have you checked that it doesn’t already exist in the DIO Design System?
There are multiple versions of the filter in the DIO services. We have only worked on the dropdown multi-select version of the filter and we need to document few more variants of the pattern in the design system.
