lemoness commented 11 years ago

@SlappyBag Can we rename this Classes/Armor/Weapons, actually? Because it makes sense to put all the armor here because it hasn't all been decided on what's going to go where.

That's all for now. Rogues coming very soon :D

Shaners commented 11 years ago

So I couldn't really figure it out from Trello but what classes are planned? Any excluded?

edit * Healer -in progress

StanLindsey commented 11 years ago

@lemoness - my idea was that classes specific content can go here and miscellaneous custom armour/weapons can go under crafting. Maybe I should rename that thread.

lemoness commented 11 years ago

@Shaners You got them all! @SlappyBag Yeah, I was pretty confused by what to put in crafting... I don't know, I think it makes more logical sense to have all armor in the same place? (Since some of this armor might be retrofitted into classes, some might become custom, some might be backer... No way to tell yet.) What do you guys think? I don't have a particularly strong opinion.

StanLindsey commented 11 years ago

I think I agree. Splitting by art type as oppsed to feature may be better. Ill get on that tomo (weds)

George-Bailey commented 11 years ago

@Shaners Hmm, Have you thought about making a Bowman / Archer class?

Shaners commented 11 years ago

@George-Bailey check out the discussion here: http://community.habitrpg.com/content/classes-summary looks like bowman / archer probably won't make it in as a class but I see no reason why we can't (other than the art might be tricky) incorporate a bow and arrow weapon into Habit.

lemoness commented 11 years ago

@George-Bailey Also, there's always a chance that it could be incorporated into future updates as a specialty class or custom gear! But yeah, we can't do it in this current push.

Do there need to be different weapons for each class? Like wands/staffs for mages, knives/whips/nunchucks for rogues, different wands/staffs for healers?

What would it be useful for people to work on right now?

lemoness commented 11 years ago

While we pry won't have different weapons in the first update, that would be a fun and useful thing to start working on now, because we want to have them in the future!

I made a crossbow... maybe I'm better at making non-living things :) - what do you guys think? crossbow

zoebeagle commented 11 years ago

Two variations... Frost and Living. frostcrossbow livingcrossbow

Shaners commented 11 years ago

@zoebeagle those are some nice crossbows but they look to be pretty big. Have you tried mocking them up against a player character? They also don't have an outline, which if added would make them even bigger. Crossbows and bows are going to be really tricky to pull off.

zoebeagle commented 11 years ago

@Shaners Hmm... I guess they are a bit big. I'll see if I can make them a bit smaller or scrap them.

zoebeagle commented 11 years ago

@Shaners I scaled the normal one down and mocked it up with the starter (non) armor and one of the rogue outfits. I don't think it's monstrously big. Thoughts? bow2

Shaners commented 11 years ago

@zoebeagle they're looking really good now actually! I think they should be able to work.

zoebeagle commented 11 years ago

@Shaners Cool! I don't think I'll try the alternate versions... just don't think there's enough pixel space :)

lemoness commented 11 years ago

Nice crossbows! It'll be cool to finally have some alternate weapons to play with. How exciting!

Pandoro commented 11 years ago

I like the bows :) But please also here keep in mind that we normally have a dark outline around everything. This could really be a problem for the bows, but if we create art without an outline, we really have to check if there isn't a set of other gear with which the bow will blend in a weird way :x

First three healers. [Edited - see updated healers in the next post!]

lemoness commented 11 years ago

Edited the pants, which were bothering me, and darkened the crowns so that they would be more visible with lighter hair. Also, here's the fourth healer as well!

comphealers1 comphealers2 comphealers3 comphealers4

StanLindsey commented 11 years ago

I'm surprised how much variety you are getting out of the stock characters, you guys are fantastic.

Pandoro commented 11 years ago

I really like the third and fourth version :D. The first two feel rather simple (not in the art-way but in the look-way), which makes sense for low level gear. I would certainly be motivated to get the more fancy gear ;)

I think what breaks it a little for me is the lack of the dark outlines for the crowns. I certainly realize that this is a problem, considering the few pixels there are, but it currently goes against the other pixel art we have :x

Plus maybe a bit more saturation on the first green? Although that might clash with the color of the fourth one.

I really feel bad about being so negative @lemoness :x I hope you don't take this the wrong way!

lemoness commented 11 years ago

No it's fine - the crown outlines are actually the main reason for the delay in posting these! I keep reworking them, but they just don't quite work when they are outlined all the way, and I feel they look a little odd when only the outermost edges are outlined. Plus they have limited color options, because they have to show up against all five hair colors. I'll keep tweaking, though! Glad you like the third and fourth gear; designing the upper-level outfits is always the most fun :)

Fifth healer and more crown tweaks coming soon.

Shaners commented 11 years ago

I like the turquoise against the grey in the first tier. The feet seem a bit different than other stuff we have though. Are they wearing robes? It kind of looks like a horizontal view of the foot when it should be top down. We should be able to see the top of the foot so they should be poking down like the other character art.

lemoness commented 11 years ago

@Shaners The idea is that they are wearing very baggy pants, kind of like split robes. But I can try to add some little toes poking out to see how it looks!

In the meantime, here is some crown fiddling:

comphealers2 crowntest7 crowntest8 crowntest9 crowntest10

The first is the original. The second is a full outline. Keep in mind that it doesn't really show up properly on the black hair. I really am not a fan of this, because it obscures most of the actual hair color, and as the crowns get larger, they blot out most of the hair, and it looks kind of weird. The third only has the outline on the outside of the crown. This is okay, I guess. Forth is a half-outline. Also not a fan of it, I don't think it really comes across. Fifth has the gem outlined in darker black. A nice effect on the brown hair, but looks a bit odd IMO when applied to the black hair. This one and the original are my favorites.

Thoughts?? Preferences? @Pandoro @Shaners especially.

Shaners commented 11 years ago

I'm a fan of the 5th version! Don't mind it against black hair either. It really makes the shape of the crown read well. Also like the original but the 5th version may be more in line with Habit's direction.

StanLindsey commented 11 years ago

Maybe the black outline is too much of a contrast, what about a real dark purple? (personally I'm a fan of the 2nd)

lemoness commented 11 years ago

Okay, I did some crown fiddling to make the outlines a little darker while keeping the thin look, and added some little feet poking out.

Here is the whole Healer set!!

comphealers1 comphealers2 comphealers3 comphealers4 comphealers5

And the sprite sheets: healercostumes

StanLindsey commented 11 years ago

They look aw hole load better in my opinion, the darker coloured outline gives it some perspective/depth/3dness also. =D

I LOVE THEM!!!! Can we see them with the sprites and costumes so that we can assess sizing? (I agree that the level 4 staff is probably bulky.)

fuzzytrees commented 11 years ago

:D

As requested: mages_modeling_weapons

fuzzytrees commented 11 years ago

I've been thinking about how the weapons/shields would look for the different classes, too. Here is what I've got so far:

Mage or Healer option 1: Staff (or possibly wands for healers) in the right hand, and defensive spells floating off (and above) to the character's left. Basically it would look like a hanging "mage" light, and would get bigger and fancier with levels. Mage or Healer option 2: Staff/wand in right hand, metaphorical shield in left hand. So a book, scroll, bandage, etc. I would need help filling in the "etc" Mage or Healer option 3: Staff/wand in right hand, translucent spell-shield in left (obviously depends on whether you can or want to support translucency) Mage or healer option 4: Crystal on staff/wand gets bigger and changes color as the weapon value increases, and the staff/setting changes color and gets bigger as the shield value increases. (would require careful fiddling, of course)

Rogue idea: Ranged weapon in right hand as "weapon" (increases exp gain), melee weapon in left hand (increases defense, or both).

OOOOH NEW THOUGHT: What if healers had musical instruments (instead of wands)? Might be hard to draw to scale, though.

zoebeagle commented 11 years ago

All I can envision is my character with a keytar. :-)

lemoness commented 10 years ago

Since we are now in Feature-Release mode, I'm going to go ahead and put out the call for more specialized class system weapons and shields! They should match the class system outfits displayed above :)

Draayder commented 10 years ago

I thought that the concept of mage shields could be really interesting so I gave it a shot. They follow the tiers of the mage clothes up above and tend to stick to the color scheme/hopefully general theme. I stuck it next to a generic mage for size reference. image

tiny shield -> small closed book -> large open book -> magical focus -> magical prayer bead focus Feel free to use or scrap any of them, I won't be hurt if you don't like the full group and mix and match with others.

AdrienLemaire commented 10 years ago

Here an idea for a new class: prehistoric man:

class-prehistoric

I'm pretty sure this will not fit within the system, being prehistoric isn't really a class (though some 2nd gen pets would fit well with it). It's more about illustrating the idea of having part-naked clothes.

cf Pixel Art Thread: Miscellaneous for skin issue

RosemonkeyCT commented 10 years ago

I love some of the new classes and equipment. What needs doing on this now?

lemoness commented 10 years ago

Draayder, cool concepts! I especially like the first and the fourth. Some suggestions - maybe instead of matching the colors exactly to the outfits, you can choose some complimentary colors. For example, the color scheme of your book might look better with Level 1, because it will stand out more. Try also comparing the shields in size with the current warrior shields. Also, the open book is not quite reading as a book - no pun intended! At that size it might be difficult. Maybe replace it with a scroll?

@Fandekasp - You're right that the prehistoric man isn't currently in the system, and the sprite would still need an outline, but the idea of part-naked clothes could potentially work in the future!

@RosemonkeyCT - Mostly weapons and shields for the classes above. Warrior is already set, and mage has some good weapond designs, but there's plenty that can be done for the other classes and for shields!

For size references, here are the current warrior shields and the weapon sizes. Try to use these as a guideline!
