This base map is pretty sweet (though there seem to be some weird effects in the Strait of Georgia https://tiles.emodnet-bathymetry.eu/ (see demo here https://tiles.emodnet-bathymetry.eu/preview.html)

Users may not like the default basemap, and may wish to use a different one. A basemap selector (toggle if two, dropdown if multiple) would be an excellent addition to the map to enable users to select a preferred basemap.
Also noting here that the point/hex layer color schemes may need to adapt (subtly hopefully) to the basemap selection, or we could design a robust and 'base-map-proof' color scheme. I'd prefer the latter
