This issue happens to me too but not all the time... seems random can't quite
figure out the trigger

OK I found a trigger or a way to turn it on. Probably just missing the code
that tells it to turn on in the slide open function. Anyways if ur backlight is
off and you want it just open the notification bar and tap the auto screen
brightness button it will turn on the keyboard! Decent for now until they fix
this slight yet annoying problem :) openetna FTW

upon further invistigation ive I'vecome to the reaalization that the keyboard
turns on if its bright around and doesnt doesn'tturn on if its dark outside.
Seems it should obviously be the reverse. Brightness button trick works fine
for me

Values for that light-level at different reported brightnesses can be found in
device/lg/eve/overlay/frameworks/base/core/res/res/values/config.xml.
Maybe someone want to try out reasonable values?

This is still happening. In a dark room no keyboard light.
Also: backlight is too strong. In a dark environment back light should be at
minimum.
Original comment by trmfrei...@gmail.com

Its just a matter of using a sensor app (like MySensors) and then choosing for
each brightness level (0-15) a reasonable value for the backlight brigthness
(0-99).
Those values must then be written down in
device/lg/eve/overlay/frameworks/base/core/res/res/values/config.xml
in the arrays config_autoBrightnessLevels,
config_autoBrightnessLcdBacklightValues,
config_autoBrightnessButtonBacklightValues and
config_autoBrightnessKeyboardBacklightValues.

I have tested my phone with MySensors and Brightness does not report any value.
Original comment by trmfrei...@gmail.com

You only see sensor values, when they change, so you may need a Torch or hold
your finger over the lightsensor to see an initial value.

I opened CyanogenMod settings and I accessed User interface. There I have
checked all position for accelerometer rotation. (it helpes when the drawer bar
disapears from the desctop screen to turn the tel. upside down and back.) I
turned the tel in all around and when I fliped the screen the keyboard's light
WAS ON! For first time since I installed V6.3-rc6. Hope it helpes.

I have discovered that the keyboard lights up if you give some light but not
too much to the sensor.
It also appears that if you vary you can get the keyboard to light up.
Like this:
Give some strong light to the sensor.
Reduce the light and the keyboard will be on.
Trying to understand now why the keylights aren't being activated sometimes.

It appears I have fixed this (it's working on my build).
Will be testing these.
Polytheus, what should I do after deciding that this is ready?

Please do not change mSpew and remove the lines you have commented out.
In config_autoBrightnessLevels, there should not be an "0" entry, as the
comment states "Zone 0: 0 <= LUX < array[0]", but there will never be an
LUX value smaller then zero. And there needs not to be a "15" entry, as the
last region extends to infinity.
The rest looks good. Tell me your github account name and I will give you the
necessary permissions.

Mspew was already changed as it was just changed for debug. Will remove
commented code and check in later.

I have not seen anyone make this comment but, running 6.3-rc6, the keyboard,
the home and the back button light only up when there is no sim card installed.
With the sim card in place there is no backlight on the keyboard, home and back
button. Could anyone confirm this? Anyway, I hope this information helps to
solve the mystery.

That is very strange what you are reporting.
Did you fastboot -w ?
On my phone I did not have that issue.
With my changes everything appears to be working fine.

Is it reated to Google Apps? (gapps) My Home button didn't work when I had no
Google Apps, also the backlight of the keyboard as the backlight of the home
and back buttons didn't work.
I have Google Apps installed now, restarted my phone a several times and now it
works with 6.3-rc6. And I have a SIM card inserted.
I did a fastboot -w before I flashed.
Sorry for deletion of my post (Is there a way to edit?), but I did get another
idea why it worked by me. I had already an older version of OpenEtna. After I
installed Google Apps, other applications where getting back. (I guess from SD
card? Or is it Google which knows which app I had installed?) Maybe the setting
of the backlight and home-button were also reverted?

Hi, regarding my comment #26.
It works partially. I always use fastboot -w before intalling a new rom, but I
guess that doing it once was not enough this time.
I did, yet again, a fastboot -w five times and used winflasher to intall the
rom, installed gapps after I formatted the sd card several times, the home and
back button backlight work.
The keyboard backlight remains a problem. Initially it did work but after I
connected the phone to my pc it does not work anymore. The same goes for the
home and back button. I rebooted it several times. When I connect the phone to
AC to charge it the home and back button do light up. The keyboard does not.
