Synchronising git history because of cherry picked commits #324

The code owners decided, to build a release 3.0.1. This requires to leave a major contribution #245 behind for the next release.

This PR is not introducing any code changes, it is about synchronising the git histories of main and develop and is adding the two cherry-picked commits to the history of develop
