In Christ Alone is already in the Bumby Extras Hymnal. It was originally typeset using Finale and should be converted to Lilypond.

During my research I encountered a couple objections that some have raised regarding the use of this song. After consulting with Robert Harkrider, Josh Creel, Walcott Steele, Greg Kline, and Ralph Kline we all came to the conclusion that the objections were without merit and that the song is very much appropriate for use in our worship.

@Nkhart and @pianoman5001 :

Review materials can be found in Review/In Christ Alone

Please review In Christ Alone for the following:

  1. The copyright is correct – in this case the words and music are in the public domain.
  2. Composer and Poet are correct.
  3. The Notes are correct.
  4. The Words are correct.
  5. The Layout looks good.
  6. The music and words on the slides look big enough and are easy to read.
  7. The layout is correct for where it will fit in our notebooks.
  8. I tried to break lines on phrases; which didn’t align with measures in most cases.

Be picky. Let’s go for high quality stuff here. I may not be able to correct everything; but I won’t know what I can do or not do until I try. I have learned out to fix the shape note rendering issues for the most part; so there shouldn't be as much of a problem now.

Replying to your email notice will post your comments to the GitHub issue related to the song.

Using the rubric found in Jim's 12/18/2016 email, here is my review:

  1. Yes
  2. Yes
  3. 3rd measure, basses: For the line "He is my light, my strength, my song" the basses have "MI MI MI FA MI SOL SOL DO" when D. J. Bulls' arrangement has "MI MI MI FA RE SOL SOL DO". Likewise in the 2nd and 4th systems.
  4. 3rd verse, 2nd system: I believe there should be a comma after "glorious day". Should also be a comma after "in victory" in the 3rd system. And then a comma after "He is mine" in the 4th system.
  5. This is the first song I've noticed where there are a lot of note flags everywhere. I like the way the Sumphonia book has it where the flags are joined together for the Sopranos/Altos and the Tenors/Basses. I think that will give it a cleaner and simpler look.

Figured out how to combine the voices. Now I'll want to do that across all the other pieces.

Jim-Duke commented 7 years ago

In response to comments by @timcaldwell - fixed all the punctuation errors you noted.

pianoman5001 commented 7 years ago

On the slides it seems that the joining of the voices for the purpose of reducing the number of flags has only happened for verse 1. All other verses have separation between the voices. Everything else looks good, though, and I think this issue can be closed after that is fixed.

Recent commits should fix the part combination problems on the slides. Please confirm @pianoman5001 and if satisfactory, close this issue.
