Question: Fake channel status #4267

We already have NFTs, where there are risks of abuse in terms of faking accounts, e.g. trying to pass yourself off as some existing known creator, and it will get compounded with CRTs. While we do have plans for channel verifications to signal authenticity, which Atlas is already planning to surface, perhaps we should also include a strong negative signal that can come from curators? This would allow applications to pick up on this and even whole sale block a channel's digital asset features, or even entirely block the channel. Importantly, applications could choose to ignore entirely as well, as this would be a metaprotocol feature that did not interact with core channel functionality in any way.

Perhaps Warning is a better label than Fake, as the latter is a very narrow form of abuse, but perhaps others may be worth including.

I think the idea in general is a good one, however I would be a bit concerned if it would only take a single rogue curator to label a channel as fake. It could be used maliciously, for example during a high-value NFT auction to lower the end price.

Hmm, I guess if there is such a high-value NFT auction, and it is actually legit, wouldn't there be lots of prior communication and suff through other channels from the real creator via already trusted channels? At least most of the time. Also, curator can already negatively impact a channel in this sort of purely griefing way, they don't get a financial payoff in any of the cases unless they are able to orchestrate some sort of live ransom interaction, which seems quite difficult.

On balance it seems, as fakery and abuse has already been known to be a serious issue on other systems, like OpenSea and DeSo, and these activities have quite direct and large rewards, that its worth doing something like this.

I guess you may be right but I also think that with enough time people will find a way to leverage this to their profit. Maybe not worth worrying about this atm though 🤔
