No signals found in 2.1.1 AppImage

In 2.1.1 AppImage my Noxon DAB stick doesn't find any signals at all while there are four channels available in my region.

Switching back to 2.0 - everything works fine.

Yes, I deleted the *.ini file. No major changes in my Linux system (Mint 21.1 64bit), no recent kernel updates.

Well, 2.1(.1) added selectivity filter that should improve the reception but it also sets default BW on HW to 1530kHz. I have tested AppImage on my Ubuntu machine and I do not see any problem. Are there any interesting messages on stdout? Could you please share RAW file recording from 2.1.1 - the channel where signal should be and it is not? Furthermore just few hints what you can try:

record RAW file with 2.0 and try to ply it with 2.1.1. Does it work?
record RAW file with 2.1.1 and try to play it with 2.0. Does it work?
Try to set bandwidth to some high value in INI file - for example 2000000 - does it work?

Looks like I need more help.

I use rtl_tcp.

Run a dab.sh with _rtltcp -d0 -a127.0.0.1 -p 1235 -f177584000 before I start AcracaDABra.

Can't connect using RAW file.

Is there any specific reason to go through rtl_tcp? But on the other hand rtl_tcp is not affected by change in the device bandwidth. I will try with rtl_tcp on my Ubuntu machine tomorrow. Can you connect directly to the HW using RTL-SDR device?

RAW file can be played Expert mode only - go to Settings -> Device -> Input device: Raw file -> Open file -> Connect. Then select any channel and the application starts to decode input stream.

I had similar issues even with my local transmitter. Please check the console output. It might say some index values.

But I agree with Petr. There is no need to use rtl_tcp when the stick is plugged in to the same computer.

I guess that you know that only one application can be connected to the device. It means when you are trying to connect from a AbracaDABra, the rtl_tcp server must not run. And what messages do you have in terminal when you trying to connect to RTL-SDR device?

Maybe also try to modify the ini file in order to use a different bandwidth setting.

I fear the Noxon stick does not accept the bandwidth in your case. I have the same at home but can't test it now.

If you have Qt-DAB on your machine as well, you could try there and check the spectrum.

Hello guys, sorry for late response. I think we are diverging, so let's restart from the beginning. The problem was that version 2.1.1 cannot receive some channels that vesion 2.0 could. So let's go step by step. First of all we need to align on the setup, it will be application in expert mode and using RTL-SDR device.

Preparation: Typical problem on linux is small usbfs buffer size. This is indicated by this message from driver / application:

Please increase your allowed usbfs buffer size with the following command:
echo 0 > /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/usbfs_memory_mb

You need to run this command before running the application (required only once after boot):

sudo bash -c "echo 0 > /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/usbfs_memory_mb"

Application setup:

Set expert mode [rationale: expert mode allows to play raw files and it also alows manual tuning of the channels]. Please make sure that your Settings looks like this:

Test 1: Select problematic channel manually from channel combo box:

Please do the same check with both 2.0 and 2.1.1.

Test 2: Close the application and open INI file: gedit ~/.config/AbracaDABra/AbracaDABra.ini &

Change bandwidth value from 0 to 2000000:

And try the reception again.

Note: It seems that Elonics E4000 tuner does not like default BW settings and it negatively imfluences signal quality - I will further investigate.

Please let me know your results from test 1 and test 2.

I've tested with several dongles (all RTL Sticks with RTL-SDR input, not with Soapy), but I get audio on my normal channels (but lower SNR). My difficult muxes only play at certain times.

You are probably trying to change device to Raw file, this is used to play the recorded raw file. Raw file is recorded from Ensemble information dialog:

Recorded with v2.0, opened in v2.1

That is particulary interesting. So the same raw file recorded in 2.0 does play in 2.0 but it does not play in 2.1 (please do no use 2.1, it is unstable). In my case the file plays fine in all AppImages 2.0, 2.1 and 2.1.1. What about CPU usage?

When I start it, the CPU usage is at 2.3 %. That's all.

I would like you to try with verbose library build. The procedure is not simple so please follow these steps carefully.

Copy AbracaDABra-2.1.1-x86_64.AppImage to some temporary folder
Open terminal in this folder
Run: ./AbracaDABra-2.1.1-x86_64.AppImage --appimage-extract
AppImage will be extracted to folder called squashfs-root, go to this folder: cd squashfs-root
There is an executable script called AppRun, you can run the application by running this script: ./AppRun
Download debug version of the library: dabsdr_2.1.1_debug01.tar.gz and store it in squashfs-root folder
Extract the archive by running: tar -xvzf dabsdr_2.1.1_debug01.tar.gz
Copy new version on the library: cp -n dabsdr_2.1.1_debug01/libdabsdr.so.2.1.1 usr/lib/libdabsdr.so.2
Now you can run the application but it will generate a lot of messages, so run it like this: ./AppRun > debug01.log 2>&1
Share resulting file debug01.log

Do not delete the squashfs-root firectory, it will be probably needed for further debugging. If you have any question please do not hesitate to ask.
