To excel above and beyond other open world survival games, we need a system of world states.
What is a world State:
A world state is where a condition is checked and if it passes the world changes in some capacity. This can be based on any combination of Time, Quests, Achievements, and Player States.
How is this useful:
Both within the main project and within mods, allowing the creation and elimination of enemies, loot spawns, plant spawns, animal spawns, locations encountered, as well as state changes, by the player playing the game or living in the world, would dramatically influence every playthrough.
Examples:
Project Zomboid erosion system, Hearts of Iron 4 / Stellaris events and super events + their global flag system, Cataclysm DDA and their EOC system plus their locations changing over time with or without player intervention.
