Minimizing application on window closing #8

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
This is usability issue.

Then user is trying to close chat window, he actually mean to minimize chat
to tray. Not to quit from application.

So closing the window should put chat to system tray.

PS. Patch included.

I was wondering about this a while ago, but actually thought the opposite. That
the
user would be confused if the application didn't quit when the 'X' was clicked.
I'm
still not sure. Do you have any links I should take a look at?

I've been using several chat clients, such as SIM, Pidgin, vyqchat, QIP. All of
them
minimizes on frame closing.

I'm sure that it is absolutely reasonable, because for end user chat is
longrunning
background task, helping communicate with others. Exiting from chat is
terminating
the communication process with other persons, but minimizing to tray is just
clearing
workspace to continue on other tasks except communication.

Good point! I'll test it.

I'm not convinced yet, so this won't make it into the next release. I'm keeping
the
issue open in case other people want to "vote" on this.

I think, as a consensus, this can be optionally set in settings (e.g.:
'Minimize to
system tray on close').

That might work for me. We'll see :)
