This is the actual path where libraries end up. The path that we pointed at before never has any libraries in it.

How did it ever work for anything? I don't know. Maybe some extremely obscure part of the system decided to automatically also search the "lib" subdirectory of every PKG_CONFIG_PATH entry? And then stopped?
