NCAR command language (NCL) has an implementation of GKS buried in its source.

In particular, it has a driver for the Cairo library, which is desirable as Cairo can generate anti-aliased primitives in software

A variation of NCL has what seems to be a different/older implementation of GKS hiding inside it under the name 'digs' (device independent graphics system?).
