A quick google.
would be worth following the checks these guys did to isolate it as same/similar/different..
Indeed, bad cabling is where my mind went too. I'll try to list what I've done: I have now a very low impedance power cable. The Pi is drawing just under 1A from a 2.4A power supply. This is when playing a movie. The U7 is drawing just under 300mA and is the only usb device attached. Switched usb cable to the U7, also tried different usb port on the pi (USB2 and USB3) None of this makes a difference.
I have now 540999d running with https://github.com/LibreELEC/LibreELEC.tv/pull/8513 reverted and not seeing the errors, so it does seem to follow the PulseAudio update
Is this issue still occurring with latest LE12 20240311-86dba4b images? (Not expecting any change - but good to confirm) There is a report that a U5 with RPi5 is working. Alternatively please raise this on the forum for support.
Confirmed - no change in behavior
I did manage to reproduce on a build with PA 16.1 by bypassing PA with aplay
and playing a 48kHz wav file.
Playing a 48kHz file through kodi, making sure PULSE: Xonar U7 was selected as the output device: PA16.1 is opening the device in 44.1KHz (weird?) mode:
LibreELEC:~ # cat /proc/asound/card2/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params
access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED
format: S16_LE
subformat: STD
channels: 2
rate: 44100 (44100/1)
period_size: 44100
buffer_size: 88200
while PA17.0 opens in 48kHz (as I would expect)
LibreELEC:~ # cat /proc/asound/card2/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params
access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED
format: S16_LE
subformat: STD
channels: 2
rate: 48000 (48000/1)
period_size: 44100
buffer_size: 88200
Not sure if the mismatched period_size
and buffer_size
are significant here
update: I installed Generic-legacy.x86_64-12.0-nightly-20240311-86dba4b the rate gets flipped to 48k, as expected, but unlike in the RPi4, the U7 is ok.
LibreELEC:~ # cat /proc/asound/card2/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params
access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED
format: S16_LE
subformat: STD
channels: 2
rate: 48000 (48000/1)
period_size: 44100
buffer_size: 88200
@CvH could you check yours?
Describe the bug
I have a ASUS Xonar U7 connected to my RPi4 that keeps resetting since
LibreELEC-RPi4.aarch64-12.0-nightly-20240115-923fe4e
. InLibreELEC-RPi4.aarch64-12.0-nightly-20240112-fa5abde
it is still fine. On current nightly (LibreELEC-RPi4.aarch64-12.0-nightly-20240213-d888148
) it still resetting The resets only happen when I play a movie, then it reset every 30 second or soI rebuild 923fe4e785 and this build gives usb erros too Then reverting https://github.com/LibreELEC/LibreELEC.tv/pull/8513: This build is fine.
dmesg snippet when it resets:

Context
Interestingly, the resets do not occur when playing normal music (mp3) or stream a YouTube clip. The movies I play, where I see the resets, are DVD rips, so audio is 48kHz I resampled an mp3 to 48kHz, and playing that one, I do see the resets - so something 48kHz?
Edit: tried with a PCM2902 based usb soundcard: this works fine, so maybe a UAC2 thing?
