BizHawk Settings Not Applied When Using Custom Install Path #7

Closed Gods666thChild closed 1 month ago

When I was selecting my own installation path, BizHawk did not have the correct settings like 2nd memory card, wonky display etc. When installing to the default path everything works as intended.

Interesting. So what you're saying is that whenever you use the import option, you don't get the settings from your install? Or what do you mean by "my own installation path"? Or were you choosing a fresh install of BizHawk and didn't have the settings? Because when you use the import option does not touch the settings of your emulator for anything, the only thing it does is update presets. This is done on purpose not to mess with anyone's settings.

My apologies, I should have followed up.

I have been uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times (for the tutorial). At least twice the install of BizHawk showed a different aspect ratio for the Press Start screen and no 2nd memory card. I originally thought it was because I installed to a folder of my choosing that that was the issue, but it also happened on the default folder path. You'll see in the #tech-support channel in the Long Library someone else experienced the same thing and another attempt at an install worked.

(Also I noticed sometimes it asks me which folder I want to install and sometimes it didn't. I've been installing the same 0.4.3.1 version and experienced having the option to choose and not)

Okay so this issue is kinda weird as I don't know what could be causing it. As far as I know it could even be a BizHawk thing. Do you know of a way to trigger the issue? Or did you find it randomly? My best guess for this issue would be that for some reason (maybe having BizHawk open, maybe the folder where you installed it, anything), the settings file installed by the Launcher after the BizHawk install failed to be installed, as that's the settings file the Launcher uses to setup everything. But that wouldn't explain why current users of the Launcher suddenly face this issue, so I'm lost here.

Regarding the second part, if you don't uninstall it from Control Panel, you won't get the option to choose where to install it. If you delete it manually, the installer will detect there's already an install and will try to update it instead of installing it.

From my perspective, the best approach to this issue would be to wait and see if more players are facing the issue and how they come to it, to try and find what causes it and replicate it.

I'm closing this question for now. If we have any other reports, we'll discuss it in a new issue.
