Not Working on Mac OS #3610

On OSX 10.14.6. Whenever I boot up the program, it's stuck on the loading screen, where the loading bar has 0 progress. I first noticed this about 3-4 days ago.

I can't offer and direct support for this. But you can try clearing your application directory (somewhere in /Support/ I think on mac?) and signing in again. You will lose your settings/sign in status, so keep that in mind.

@jostrander This method worked for me, I deleted the Google Play Music Desktop Player folder that was located in Library/Application Support. I just had to re-login after deleting and relaunching the application.

The above worked for me as well. For a full set of instructions for anyone having this issue, these steps may resolve your issue:

  1. Close Google Play Music Desktop Player if you have it open
  2. Open the Terminal app
  3. Delete the application data for Google Play Music Desktop Player by typing/copying-pasting the following in to the terminal rm -rf Library/Application\ Support/Google\ Play\ Music\ Desktop\ Player/ Screen Shot 2019-09-11 at 11 10 00 AM
  4. Open Google Play Music Desktop Player and sign back in with your Google Account
  5. Enjoy your music

I encountered this same issue on macOS version 10.14.6. Deleting the application data also worked for me!

My settings were under /Users/<my-username>/Library/Application\ Support/Google\ Play\ Music\ Desktop\ Player/

I was having this issue and it fixed itself at some point. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was able to unstick this by just killing the Cache folder in the above, i.e. without having to reauth.

Might be related. I am getting > 100% CPU usage. I think there is a memory leak or something

I am on Mac 10.14.5

If I leave it running in the background it will start around 200MB of memory and keep climbing the longer it is open.

Thanks heaps for that solution - clearing the application support data via the terminal worked great as it wasn't directly visible using finder.

Actually while it does reset the application - it continues to hang at the point after the google password is entered :(

Any other solutions - could the application support/cache folder be located elsewhere than normal in Catalina? - There doesn't seem to be a google play folder in the folders that the terminal command targets

Fix from the #3640 issue thread works on all platforms. There is a step-by-step guide for Mac:

  1. Download and unpack app.asap file from this repo: https://github.com/DHOMD/google_music_desktop
  2. Right-click broken Google Play Music Desktop Player.app -> "Show package content" -> Contents -> Resources
  3. Replace app.asap and restart GPMDP.

I tried the same of delete the folder, nevertheless doesn't work after to do relogin
