Why does my SMB ROM start me in World 0-1?
It's an emulator issue that happens when the emulated memory is not properly
cleared. Try another emulator. To reproduce this effect on a real NES (or
emulator), enter Game Genie code YSAOPE + YEAOZA.

Interesting. Thanks for pointing this out.

I always thought my plain SMB1 rom was bad. I always use the Duck Hunter + SMB
rom and it works fine. It happens on a few other ports.

this wouldnt of happened to be a small about 16 kb rom would it? is the level a
water level? if it is then thats a modded rom and not the actual full game. i
downloaded somethign similar.

this is not an issue with the emulator, i can almost guarantee this is a bad
rom. there is a very popular 16kb version of the ROM that is just borked. we
get this bug all the time in the fceux tracker

A way to get around the issue: Hold A (or whatever you have configured for A)
when you press start.

I don't think it's a problem with the ROM itself as it plays normally in other
emulators - and even used to play normally in older versions of FCEU from what
I remember. Also, several graphic-hacked Mario 1 ROMs I tried have the same
issue.
