Inaccurate Sound Effects in Final Fantasy VII #106

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Load FF7
2. Listen for sound effects after opening movie
3. Notice that they are inaccurate

What version of CubeSX or WiiSX are you using? On what console?

WiiSX Beta 2.1

Are you using HLE BIOS or a real BIOS (SCPH1001, etc)?

Using Real Bios, SCPH-1001

Which core type is being used, Dynamic Recompiler or Interpreter?

Both

Please provide any additional information below.

Maybe other games have this problem too, but I definitely noticed that FF7 has
inaccurate sound effects when compared to the original PS1 console, or even the
EPSXE emulator.

Ok I just tested Chrono Cross. It also has inaccurate sound effects. So maybe
alot of games have this problem.

You did check out issue 47, right? The sound is only a basic stereo/XA audio
plugin; the next release will (hopefully) implement sound sync, interpolation,
reverberation and CDDA audio. That is, if the Wii64 team is willing to tackle
these issues Beta 3. Grandia I is pretty much the best sounding game on WiiSX
beta 2 (and that in itself is a big accomplishment).

Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize that was the problem.

So your saying that if implement all those things, that the sound effects will
be accurate?

Thanks!

That's correct. I remember ePSXe having those exact issues before Eternal SPU
was released. Hopefully by Beta 3, those issues will be fixed and by doing so,
the sound effects will sound that much closer to the real PSX hardware.
