Describe the issue

Hey I am a bit of a novice here.

I stumbled upon a SCPH-50001 U/C recently and decided to mod it. Note I am actually in a PAL region so its a bit of an odd find.

I really wanted to play PS1 backup games on it. The DVD laser is dead or not working, and I cleaned the lens.

However, I failed to read the readme, when I was first setting up mechapwn I accidently selected force unlock. Is this permanent?

When I realized what I had done I reverted the NVRAM back to the to the original backup. And then ran it again doing. Run Mechapwn -> unplug -> Mechapwn -> keep patches and I made sure not to run force unlock.

Right now this is the situation.

No mechapwn with original nvram restored: Backups still detected as PS2 but fail to load Audio CDs play DVD will not read at all, hardware issue I think

Mechapwn installed All game disks from stock browser are seen as PS2 even after restoring firmware and selecting keep current patches. PS2 games will load from stock browser fine Non PS2 CD roms are seen as PS2 disks If going to browser from FMBC boot, no disks will work except audio CDs which will play fine FMBC disk boot will load PS2 games and work as expected FMBC disk boot will go black on PS1 then go to browser and show red screen.

Oddly I did have the system randomly boot a PS1 game while sitting on a red screen... I have zero idea how this happened and I failed to reproduce it. This was before I cleaned the laser, and I think after I did the first force unlock my memory is fuzzy. I was never able to reproduce this.

I have also tried both RC4 and the development build.

I have attached the required sticker photo and nvram backup.

Ok I am going a bit crazy, one of the disks that kept failing magically decided to be PS1 disk and Spyro was running. I rebooted and now its saying its not a Play Station Disk.

This was via FMCB, which normally shows nothing. I am 100% puzzled. PS2 CDs read 100% via the stock browser. Really at a loss its very temperamental.

I tried to reproduce, what i did.

Failed to boot, tried psxlaunch that failed went back to menu. and then it saw it as a psx disk . However that did not work a second time.

On one attempt psxlancher decided to load the disk all on its on... however every attempt since has said.

"Not a psxdisc"

What ever is wrong its super finicky.

I can not get it to behave consistently.

again I dont think its the drive as PS2 discs run great.

Edit also to note all software I am trying to run is NTSC U/C as well.

Ok so I found a reliable way to make it work... I double tap the rest and it kicks in. But then it sees all discs as PS1

This -1 minus reddit post seemed to have solved my issue... but is this normal behavior?

Sorry for wasting your time if you read this, system must be chipped... as I uninstalled mechapwn. And the double tap method is loading out of region backups of PS1 games...

Ya I'm closing this its chipped 100% I have not seen the chip inside yet but I am certain as mechapwn was removed and it boots PS2 games. Thanks for your tool btw :) I would have never thought to look for a modchip. I guess I would of found it when I got around to replacing the RTC.
