It has been suggested that inclusion of reloading-like audio and animations with a quick ammo swap feature could compensate for the lack of non-gameplay "preparation" aesthetics that reloading usually brings.
Ammo quick swap is a long suggested feature of being able to press a key (R is free, ignoring it being the default mount button) to either bring up an ammo selection wheel to re-order the inventory and force the selected ammo to appear first in its order of usable items, or do a fixed cycle. The latter is best being tried first, as it could be more effective if deemed good enough.
This is an important feature to have before getting serious with ranged overhauls and trying to introduce active resource play (frequent loss and regaining of ammunition.)
