Hi @fluffynuts ! Nice name :-)
So our Jenkins server got infected with crypto mining malware recently 😞
The current launcher loads information from there so if it is offline (most the time right now - I occasionally start it up while watching for and killing the malware) the launcher won't be able to look up stuff.
We're both working on a new Jenkins (old one is compromised so it needs to be tossed completely) and a new major version of the launcher that should be more durable (able to load releases off GitHub or an arbitrary file storage service of some sort). But both of those may take a bit of time :-(
): that sucks ):
In the mean-time, can I just download a release zip and work with that for now? What should I do to make whatever I download work with the launcher whenever it is working again?
I tried it out on my linux box and my son, who really likes Minecraft, wants to play Terasology after seeing it on my machine, so I'd basically just like to get it up and running and see if his machine will even handle it (Terasology is way prettier and does a lot more on the gpu, so I'm not sure how well it will run on his laptop).
Jenkins is back up again (and will hopefully stay so). May you try it again (with the launcher?). If that does not work you can still download TerasologyOmega.zip from https://github.com/MovingBlocks/Terasology/releases
Yes sorry about the slow reply, but as @skaldarnar pointed out we've managed to patch up our Jenkins much like maester Qyburn from Game of Thrones patched up The Mountain :-)
This should let the launcher work again, hopefully you and your son will be able to use it and have fun @fluffynuts - sorry about the inconvenience!
Going to close this as resolved :-)
Thanks for attending to this! I've only performed a rudimentary test from Linux -- and I can't test further right now, since I've updated NVIDIA drivers, so, of course, nothing GLX works :/ But thanks for getting it sorted out (:
yes, I can confirm -- launcher is working 100% in Linux. My son will be pleased (: he's been bugging me to get this on his machine since I showed it to him on my machine, but launcher downloads conked out at exactly the wrong time ^_^. Thanks again (:
I recently tried out Terasology on my Linux machine, using the launcher to download and run the game -- no problems.
Then I wanted to do thesame on my other Windows machine -- the launcher starts, and seems to be able to get some of the way towards downloading, but not all the way:
The download button never becomes active, so I can't proceed from there.
I'm not sure what extra information can help? I did have a notification to update java today on this machine, so, when Terasology didn't seem to want to start up the first few times, I did update (to 1.8.0_211-b12), but that doesn't seem to have made a difference.
I have tried several times with wiping out the %APPDATA%\Terasology folder and starting from scratch, but to no avail. Any assistance (or information as to how I can make this report more useful) is appreciated.
