What will happen in your session?
In this workshop the participants are going to learn how data is stored, and will store, then get to take home, their own piece of data using LASERS!!
This session with start with an introduction to binary and how computers use it to store information. We will then discuss how to use binary to store more complex information such as text, using protocols like ASCII. Then once participants have decided what information they want to store/represent, they will generate their piece of artwork which will then be brought into reality with LASERS onto acrylic/wood. The explain the similarities to optical stored mediums.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
Participants will walk away having a better understanding of the different storage methods that are implemented by computers. They will also better understand LASERS and the digital fabrication methods associated with Lasercuttering.
Participants will also get to take home their personalised piece of lasercut artwork with their data stored within.
See rough diagram below of the idea
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
I require access to the prototyping space, along with wood or acrylic materials. Also a few computers will be needed.
