Closed mozfest-bot closed 7 years ago
@poojapurswani Ive accepted this session for our VR track together with the Pi musical stairs and the Pi tweeter bot. The stipend will cover 1 persons travel and accomodation, the room can be a double room so you could share it with your co-facilitator but @dimonga will have to fund his own travel.
@EPIKhub Thanks a lot for selecting this proposal and awarding the stipend, however, I am afraid that it would be not possible for me to handle the event alone as my co-facilitator @dimonga is a student and would not be able to arrange the fund for his travel. He is the one who does most part of the assembly and testing of hardware, while I take care of code, presentation and some part of the hardware.
We both have applied for 11 proposals in Mozfest this year and we have been attending it every year ( so we both are quiet familiar with the arrangments and audience and how everything works there ) so if a discussion can be done with all the other teams where we have submitted all of these following proposals, and thus provide my co-facilitator with travel funds. Being a part of Mozilla's techspeaker program, we can do setup of all the submitted proposals as most of them are exhibit & presentation type and mainly focus on indulging audience
Here are the links to our submitted proposals this year
@poojapurswani - Thank you for the quick response. Unfortunately all stipends have been allocated and in each case all stipends awards are for 1 person only. As this session require the both of you I unfortunately have no choice but to withraw our offer of a stipend. Please do apply again next year! cc/ @Saallen
@EPIKhub Okay thanks for letting me know, please do not withdraw the stipend, as we are trying to get the stipend arranged from other sources for @dimonga, in worst case if anything is not arranged for my co-facilitator, I can bring the already build setup and showcase it there
@poojapurswani I feel that on balance now you having explained the situation that the session/s would not be a good fit simply as a demo, I am really sorry but as this is a team piece this session should run as a team or not at all. cc/ @Saallen
@EPIKhub Thanks for info, I will keep you updated once travel stipend for my co-facilitator is arranged
Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest. Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.
Thank you for taking the time to submit and we will follow up on email very soon.

What will happen in your session?
"It gets even more interesting when virtual and augmented reality meets the Internet of Things." — Phil Repp
Imagine the possibilities that can exist if we were to we combine the worlds of Virtual Reality and Internet of Things. This session will enable people with minimal knowledge of VR and basic IoT boards(such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi) to experience the best of IoT & VR worlds.
Furthermore, attendees will get a chance to tinker with an Internet controlled, remote tele-robot that we have built as a prototype using Raspberry Pi with Arduino, as they transport and assume the identity of a web-connected robot, tasked with monitoring and maintaining atmospheric conditions. Thus getting the experinece of a remote location via Internet
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
By this hands-on audience will learn how to Combine IoT with VR and hence make their own smart telepresence robotic system like Jarvis. By the end of the session, the audience will gain an increased understanding of the VR and IoT landscape, as well as how these technologies can be combined to give them an experience in life that was previously never-before-possible.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
extra space for keeping the robot, as robot will be operated from a remote location and will be displaying the view from the camera to a VR device at the user end
Time needed
All weekend, as an installation, exhibit or drop-in session
