Interesting session
great to see St Annes- Belfield school submitting for MozFest 🎆
@Saallen - Will this be youth led? Cc/ @emrysgreen if so might be good for emys track
Would be brilliant if it is :)
@Saallen @emrysgreen @EPIKhub We are going to see if we can recruit a student or two. Worst case, we can share video of them giving the lesson. We'll also provide a video montage of students responding to prompts like 'what does fake news mean to you' before & after the lesson.
Excellent, thanks @techkim - do let us know ASAP. I do think this would fit well if you can. Going to add our youth led curation tag.
@techkim this would also be awesome for our [YouthZone] Social action track - we dont have any fake news nor news related sessions in the youth zone as yet; fake news is critically important to youth cc/ @Saallen
@EPIKhub @Saallen Awesome! Whether or not we can recruit a student or two of ours to make the trek, @SuAdams thinks she'll be able to recruit some London youth. Be really cool if we can connect ours with hers:)
Hiya @SuAdams - would you like this to be considered in the Youth led track?
Hi @emrysgreen I am more that happy to source some youth for this track, I'd love to support @techkim and see this on one of the youth led tracks :)
@SuAdams @emrysgreen Awesome! I've also got confirmation of one student who can join us from St. Anne's-Belfield. We are working to recruit another:)
Great news guys, thanks
Subscribing.
Hiya @phillipadsmith - are you ok to include this in your programming for the Open Innovation space as part of the youth led track? We will support @SuAdams and co with supporting their young facilitators when recruited. If so, would you add your milestone please?
Hey @emrysgreen @phillipadsmith - we are happy to take this into Web Literacy space.
Ok cool, thanks @flukeout . We will have a heavy presence for YL Track in Web Literacy (perhaps natural) so just checking that's good for you. Potentially 5 sessions... Having said that I have 3 requests listed for Open Innovation so could well be fine with them too...
@flukeout @emrysgreen Keep me updated.
Hello Sarah - We are very happy to announce you that we have decided to accept your session at the festival this year! Congratulations! 🎉 You'll receive soon news about how move forward with your proposal
@edovio We're super excited! When will we receive more details about moving forward with the proposal?
Hi @techkim - I sent an email a little earlier today welcoming all of the Web Lit folks. Did you get it? I'm curious because I haven't heard anything back so I want to make sure it sent correctly.
We'll be reaching out in the next week or so with more information and support for your session, as well as scheduling information. Do you have any specific questions right now? Let us know, cheers.
@techkim and I are thrilled to be selected, and look forward to giving our session next month!
Hello @sjfitzhenry and @techkim! Thanks for your confirmation! :) See you on October :)
Hello @techkim and @sjfitzhenry!
As MozFest is approaching we’re asking that you reply to this issue with an outline of the topics and activities for your session. A rough, bullet-point outline with time estimates would be ideal. Thank you and let us know if you have any questions.
Hello everyone! We are so excited about this session. Here is the the outline of what we are planning:
Thank you! Can't wait!
Dear Facilitators, we are happy to share with you the MozFest facilitators 2017 Guide at the Link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fezzIH8u0Li6pIHMNYDCuUjA_gHpB4Px9eXQo4Ol7es/edit It is also important to sign in here: https://public.etherpad-mozilla.org/p/festival.fabriders.facilitatorcoaching2017 for the coaching session, that helps you in your facilitation role! :)
Can you please share the proposed date and time of our session? Thank you!
Hey @sjfitzhenry - thanks for the detailed outline. I'll share the proposed calendar by the end of the week. Cheers!
Are there any special requirements / requests you have regarding scheduling?
@flukeout We need a projector. No special scheduling request. We want participants to be able to work with Thiimble during our session, so any chance we could have access to a couple of laptops for those that don't have access? We do have a youth and her mom joining us, so can we get MozFest tickets for them too? Thanks!
Hiya @techkim and @sjfitzhenry - will be fine to organise a ticket for the YP and their mom. Please could you send me back your session details form I sent out on email as that asks for the names of each of the people coming and then I can double check ticket requests.
@emrysgreen I don't remember getting that e-mail. Could you send it again to @sjfitzhenry and me (kwilkens@stab.org). Thanks!
Sure, have sent just now @techkim :)
@techkim - we've created the first version of the Web Literacy Space schedule for the weekend and wanted you to have a look...
Please take a few minutes to locate your session (I've had to abbreviate the session names) and let us know if you have any questions or if there are any reasons that you cannot host your session during the chosen time (like a travel conflict or another session you are hosting at the same time). Please comment in this issue and and include @flukeout
to get my attention.
We'll be finalizing the schedule next week and updating the Guidebook app that attendees will use during the festival.
Thanks!
@flukeout I was really hoping to attend the Girls for a Change session (being Tech-Girls founder and all:). Any chance our session could move to a slot that is not at the same time.

What will happen in your session?
Attendees will work through a series of games, activities, and challenges that will help them see the issue of fake news from a student’s perspective. Our Foiling Fake News Teaching Kit builds off our students’ previously mastered website verification skills, putting these skills into the new context of online current event reporting - blogs, news and fact-checking websites, satirical news sources, and more. Using Mozilla tools like Kraken the Code and X-ray Goggles, participants will get hands-on experience with lessons designed to help young people become more educated and confident internet news consumers. More details about the lessons can be found @ https://thimbleprojects.org/techkim/258242.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
Our goal is to make sure that information and digital literacy skills are constantly practiced and reviewed by parents, educators, librarians and anyone who works with children. In order to help students to learn how to find the best information online, we want to help educators feel comfortable taking a step back and letting students take control, and Mozilla has provided a fantastic set of tools that empowers them to do just that.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
We will require a projector and pens for our session. We will not need any additional materials.
